Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.

   ---Some translations read, "wash their robes" instead of "do his commandments". "Do his commandments" harmonizes more with Rev.12:17 and Rev.14:12. "Wash their robes" is symbolic and means that people have had their sins washed away or forgiven by the perfect life and the sacrificial death of Jesus. All those who have had this experience will be keeping the commandments because sin, or law-breaking, will be washed out of their daily lives. So the literal meaning is the same. The doors of the heavenly city will open to all those who, by God's grace, live in harmony with God's eternal will, the Ten Commandments.

The Ten Commandments are:

(1) A revelation of God's character;

(2) A mirror to show us our faults;

(3) A definition of sin;

(4) The standard of judgment;

(5) A blueprint for a happy life;

(6) A stop and go signal on the highway of life;

(7) A bright floodlight for dark places;

(8) A fence, safeguard, and fortress against evil;

(9) A summary and sum total of all known duties of mankind;

(10) A word picture of true love.

Like a mirror, the Ten Commandments are a reflection of God's character:

-- - Note Eccl.12:13 Amp.- -. Fear God --know that He is, revere and worship Him-- and keep His commandments; for this is the whole of man (the full original purpose of his creation, the object of God's providence, the root of character, the foundation of all happiness, the adjustment to all inharmonious circumstances and conditions under the sun), and the whole duty for every man.

Codes: & = Faith, obedience, law; (crown)= Hope, 2nd Coming, Jesus names; = Love, sacrifice;
