Bible Lesson # 12 -- THE A B C OF SALVATION-- Code: AB; Color: red

How can I have eternal life?  Is there any hope? How can I be saved from my sins?   This lesson will help answer these questions. The threefold Salvation plan for taking care of past, present, and future sins is as simple as A B C! You will see that our God is the God of Salvation. He can save you from the guilt of, the life of, and the effects of sin. His plan is big enough to include the entire world. First, we will notice the ABC plan for the world, then the ABC plan for you personally, and then the ABC plan for the converted you!

--The ABC Salvation Plan For The Whole World--

1. Rom.3:23 - Who have sinned?

Rom.3:23. For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

---Here is your "A" (ALL). It tells of the world's need!

2. Ps.53:2-3 - By Nature who turns away from God?

Ps.53:2. God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God.

3. Everyone of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

---- "A" = All have sinned!  That is the problem. OUR NEED.

3. Jn.1:29 - What is the world's remedy?

Jn.1:29. The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

--- Here is OUR REMEDY, the "B" in the ABC of Salvation.  Circle "Behold" and underline the "B".

4. Mat.11:28 - What invitation and promise did Jesus give?

Mat.11:28. Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

--- Here is GOD'S CALL to the world, and it is the "C" in the ABC of salvation.  Circle the word "Come" and underline the letter "C".

---Another "C" text invitation reads: "Come now, let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow…" Isa.1:18.

---Here you see that salvation is open to everybody in the world. Everyone!  The death of the "Lamb", the sinless Christ is great enough payment for all sins of all mankind in all ages.

5. 1 Tim.2:3-4 - What is God's wish for ALL men?

1 Tim.2:3. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;

4. Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

--The A B C Salvation Plan For You and Me Personally: ------

6. Ps.32:5 - What is MY NEED, or the "A" step in my salvation?

Ps.32:5. I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid....

Ps.32:5  LB  ... I finally admitted all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide them. I said to myself, ``I will confess them to the Lord.'' And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone.         ---  "A" = Admit your sin!     Ask for forgiveness.

7. Ps.51:1-3,10 - For what is the Psalmist asking?

Ps.51:1. Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. 2. Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sins. 3. For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. 10. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

---  Thought questions: Is the humiliating experiences of admitting our sin necessary? --  Is self-abasement important?   -- Why does God appreciate a broken spirit and a contrite heart? (v.17)

8. Mat.5:4 - Will we be comforted in heaven for mourning over our sins today?

Mat.5:4.  Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

---Yes, Jesus compared mourning over sins with mourning over the death of a loved one. Sin separates us from God and our greatest comfort will come when we are reunited in heaven.  But there is a blessing or comfort today for those who admit and mourn over their sins.   To be sorry and repent is a gift from God.

--- Make it personal.  My sins nailed Jesus to the cross. Every time I sin, I hurt my Savior. When I disobey his ten commandments I tear his wounds open and crucify him again! (see Heb.6:6)  That's why I should mourn, but I shouldn't give in to discouragement because God has the remedy. It is the "B" in the ABC for our personal salvation. It is "Believing" that Jesus is the perfect Lamb of God. This pleases Jesus and He knows that his death for me was not in vain.

9. Mat.27:41-44 -  Why did Jesus die?

Mat.27:41-44 LB  ---  And the chief priests and Jewish leaders also mocked him. "He saved others," they scoffed, "but he can't save himself! So you are the King of Israel, are you? Come down from the cross and we'll believe you! He trusted God---let God show his approval by delivering him! Didn't he say, 'I am God's Son'?" 44. And the robbers also threw the same in his teeth.

--- "He saved others" Jesus died to save others. He could have called ten thousand angels to set him free, but instead He died for me. He died to set me free! Jesus is the God of our salvation!  Many would have believed in a king who would display power to kill.  But King Jesus suffered as a lamb sacrifice and died to display God's kingdom of LOVE!

10. Heb.11:28 LB- By what were God's people saved from the death angel?

A

Heb.11:28 LB -- And it was because he believed God would save his people that he commanded them to kill a lamb as God had told them to and sprinkle the blood on the doorposts of their homes, so that God's terrible Angel of Death could not touch the oldest child in those homes, as he did among the Egyptians.

11. Acts 16:25-34 What did Paul and Silas tell the frightened jailor when he asked what he should do?

Acts 16: 30. And (the jailor) brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?  31. And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house… 32. And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house. 33. And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway. 34. And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.

- - Note Jn.1: 12. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.

.Now we come to the "C" part of the ABC's of personal salvation. It is "Commit Claiming" and means that we may commit our lives to Jesus, and we can claim all his promises to make us righteous and to work a miracle of creation in us.

12. Ps.37:5-6 - (Read)  Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. 6. And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.

13. 1 Pet.4:19 - (Read)  Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.

--The A B C Salvation For The New You, The Converted Christian--

14. Job 42:5-6 - When righteous Job caught a true vision of God how did he view himself?

Job 42:5. I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee. .6. Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.

---A continual need of every Christian is to see the Holy character of God and by contrast they will Abhor sin and their own weak sinful nature! The A of a Christian is to always ABHOR or hate  sin and his own sinful nature.

15. Hosea 2:19-20,23 - Find the key word that gives God's remedy for our sinful nature. It starts with "B" and it is repeated three times in these verses?

Hosea 2: 19. And I will betroth thee unto me for ever; yea, I will betroth thee unto me in righteousness, and in judgment, and in lovingkindness, and in mercies. .20. I will even betroth thee unto me in faithfulness: and thou shalt know the Lord. .23. And I will sow her unto me in the earth; and I will have mercy upon her that had not obtained mercy; and I will say to them which were not my people, Thou art my people; and they shall say, Thou art my God.

---Here is a marriage contract.   The Lamb, Jesus, is our remedy.  He is our Bridegroom, Champion, Lover and Defender!  Through the Holy Spirit He is still God on earth and will always walk with us as much as we allow.

16. Joshua 22:5 -What are children of God invited to do?

Joshua 22:5 LB = ...Love the Lord and follow his plan for your lives. Cling to him and serve him enthusiastically.''

Joshua 22:5 KJ =. But take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law, which Moses the servant of the Lord charged you, to love the Lord your God, and to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and to cleave unto him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.

CLING or CLEAVE --  means to hold onto and not let go. This is God's invitation and promise of love. This is the "C" in the ABC of Salvation for the new you.

17. Deut.30:20 - Why should we CLING to the Lord?

Deut.30:20. LB -- Choose to love the Lord your God and to obey him and to cling to him, for he is your life and the length of your days. You will then be able to live safely in the land the Lord promised

Behold the King of Love! Behold Jesus, the Lamb, the faithful Keeper-Creator, and the Eternal Lover! He will save you from past, present and future sin if you Come, Commit yourself, and Cling to Him!

We may eulogize love with our choicest rhyme

We might study this love through all of time,

But never can fathom God's love sublime!

He gave us His Son to die on a tree,

He gave us a Saviour to set man free;

That love was so great it included me.
